Games Based
Learning
As part of the
work that we are doing with game based
learning, we are currently looking for primary
schools and more specifically year 5 teachers
and students to take part in an exciting new
research project.
MAY 2009 The
project is now up and running in 12 Enfield
Primary Schools. From Nintendogs in year 1 to
Mario Galaxy in year 5, there are a wide range
of exciting and innovative projects currently
running. The results of the pilot project
should be available to all schools by september
2009. If you would like your school to be
involved from Spetember or would like to
discuss any aspect of the project please
contact Andrew Rhodes at the centre
(andrew@centralenfieldclc.org.uk)
Based around
Nintendo Wii and DS consoles the project aims
to use games such as Guitar Hero and
Snowboarding to create a context for learning.
With creativity currently very high on the
government agenda with respect to the primary
curriculum, the Rose report (The Interim
Primary Curriculum Review Report, Dec 2008)
suggests that the primary curriculum needs to
look to embrace a wide variety of technologies
in the classroom to fully engage students in
their learning. The project will aim to involve
students in the curriculum planning process,
and will offer the primary schools involved the
chance to try out some of these technologies in
their classrooms. The hope is that the
resulting action research can be shared to
other primary schools looking to try similar
projects. If you are a year 5 teacher who would
like to try out something a little bit
different, or you are looking to develop a more
creative project based approach to the
curriculum in your school then this could be
the project for you!
