We are very pleased to announce that, in conjunction with Toucan Computers, our Apple Solutions Expert, we will be hosting the first ever London Apple Teachers Institute. Over three days from June 16 - 18th, come along and see how Apple technologies and digital media could be used in your school to help you transform teaching and learning. There will be a number of workshops run by Apple Distinguished Educators (ADE's) and lots of time to explore great tools for creating your own digital media projects. There will also be opportunities to explore how mobile learning using devices like the iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad might help you and your students to learn anytime, anywhere.....

iPod Touch Project

Enfield Radio Station Week

We are hoping to run a radio station week here in Enfield where schools can create radio broadcasts and share them over the course of a week. I know that many schools in Enfield have their own radio stations and it would be interesting for these schools to share their experiences and suggest ways of how we can take this forward.

If you are interested and are in a school in Enfield come along to a meeting on November 16th from 4pm until 5pm at Central Enfield CLC to discuss this further, to find out who is interested in being involved, decide on the theme of the week and divide the topics amongst schools. I am suggesting that the radio week will take place in May.

Netbooks in the Secondary Classroom

We have been working with The Latymer School Enfield, piloting the impact of a set of 10"Netbooks to support learning in lessons. Towards the end of the summer term, year 9 experimented with the Netbooks in a range of lessons. We have loaned them 30 Samsung Netbooks, which are stored and charged in a case that can easily be transported around the school to different lessons.

From September 09 they have been used with year 7s in a variety of subjects, we will publish more findings as we work through the project.

The feedback below is from year 9 students, their responses are in blue.

• Did you find having access to the Netbooks useful?:

Yes, definitely 16 (69.57%)

No, not at all 6 (26.09%)

Not sure 1 (4.35%)

• Did you find having the 24/7 access to the Netbooks useful?:

Yes 13 (56.52%)

• Did you manage to connect to the internet at home?:

• Did the Netbooks retain enough power to use it throughout the day?:

E safety Training Update

We are continuing to support the schools and multi agency staff with E safety training. These sessions have become very popular.

Dates that we have planned for E - Safety (Child Exploitation Online Protection Agency) Training are as follows:

Wednesday 18th November 2009 9:30pm – 12:30 OR 13:00 - 16:00

Wednesday 20th January 2010 9:30pm – 12:30 OR 13:00 - 16:00

Using Myst to engage children and develop creative writing skills.

We have been working with Tim Rylands (http://www.timrylands.com/blog/about/) to explore the potenital of using computer games to engage and inspire students to write. Tim began using computer games in his lessons in a bid to improve children's literacy and communication skills. He travels around the world to give presentations and model lessons. We managed to secure a booking with Tim in Enfield. We invited Tim to deliver a training session to Teachers over two days. We worked with Alison Martin to organise the sessions. The training involved teachers from Enfield Primary schools attending Galliard Primary to watch Tim model a session with year 1, 3 and 5.

Tim modelled lessons which involved using a computer game called Myst to develop creative writing skills. The purpose was to encourage creative writing, inspiring children to explore vocabulary, Metaphors and Similes in a fun and exciting way. The following day the teachers came to the CLC to explore the pedagogy behind what they had seen the day before at Galliard.

The CLC is supporting this project by loaning Ipod touches to the schools to explore Myst for creative writing. Teachers have been asked to select 6 pupils in their schools to track their progress. We will be publishing the findings to this exciting project some watch this space.

2DIY Training
