Using Music technology to enhance QCA curriculum at Key Stage 2

This course will look at the range of resources available for enhancing the QCA Key Stage 2 music curriculum with a particular focus on how Garageband can help teachers to bring the music curriculum to life and inspire creativity in students.

Podcasting is becoming an important medium for sharing knowledge and information in education. This course will focus on the equipment needed to podcast, how to create a podcast, the different types of podcast (audio, enhanced and video) and their potential uses in the classroom. There will be a chance to create your own podcast.

Using Video and other media creatively in the curriculum

Digital video is a powerful medium that can be used in a whole variety of curriculum areas to great effect. This course is aimed at those teachers who would like to make use of video in their classroom but have little or no experience. Focussing on the equipment and software needed to create simple and visually stunning video projects, there will be opportunities to explore how this type of project could be incorporated into your curriculum.

Using Comic Life to support literacy work

Comic Life is a fantastic piece of software for creating photo story style comic strips with students as young as year 2. It is perfect for creating visual stories and developing literacy and story telling skills. This session will look at how to create photo stories as well as covering the basics of digital photography. A must for all primary Literacy and English coordinators!

Using Stop Motion Animation creatively to support the curriculum

Wednesday 11th March 2009 1.30pm – 4pm
Stop motion animation has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years thanks to characters like Wallace and Gromitt and Pingu. The software used to create these animations has also become extremely easy to use. This session is designed to take complete novices through the skills and processes involved in making an animation. This session is very hands on, so do come expecting to make your very animation. There will be an opportunity to look at past projects run by the CLC and discuss curriculum mapping opportunities.

Creative use of digital photography in the curriculum

Wednesday 6th May 2009 1.30pm – 4pm
Digital photography has revolutionised the way people take and store photographs. This session aims to look at some of the creative opportunities that are available to manipulate and publish your photos. The session will cover making digital photo slideshows to tell stories, turning your photos into pop art and also briefly look at how Comic Life and digital photos can be used to develop literacy.

Making the most of music technology at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5

Wednesday 3rd June 2009 9.30pm – 4pm
Music technology has changed the way that professional musicians make music. Almost all music production involves the use of a computer at some stage. This course is aimed at secondary music teachers who would like to make more use of music technology at key stages 3, 4 or 5. Looking at a variety of Industry standard software titles throughout the day such as Garageband, Logic, Reason and Ableton this course should help to demonstrate how motivating and interesting music technology could be for your students. There will be opportunities to discuss integrating music technology into the music curriculum and using music technology for GCSE and A-level coursework as well as many other things! A must for all secondary music coordinators and teachers.
